Staff at John Lewis Partnership are set to receive a 15 per cent bonus – equivalent to nearly eight weeks’ pay.
This is despite the group, which includes John Lewis and Waitroses stores, announced a drop of profits by four percent to £329.1m
Paul Hunt, head of branch, John Lewis Milton Keynes said: “It has been a great year for us here in Milton Keynes and we have experienced strong progress in our sales following our full refurbishment of the shop.
“We have seen excellent growth in technology, together with home and fashions delivering leading performances in our business.
“All of this was topped off by an excellent Christmas and our busiest winter Clearance for several years. We have developed our performance in all key areas of Partner and customer satisfaction and a strong final quarter to the year suggests that customers have embraced our new layout and selling concepts.”
Alex Boardman, 28, is a member of the Visual Merchandising team at John Lewis Milton Keynes. He is spending this year’s bonus on becoming a certified accelerated free fall sky diver. He said: “I got the bug for sky diving after my wife bought me a series of lessons for Christmas and I’ll be putting my bonus towards completing levels two to eight. Level eight means I’ll be qualified to jump without an instructor present and once I’ve completed ten jumps I’ll have my full licence. All the Partners that I work with think it’s a terrifying way to be spending my bonus but they’re excited for me nonetheless!”
Shelley O’Connor, 52, a trainee fitted kitchen advisor, has been a Partner at John Lewis Milton Keynes for the past 22 years.
Her bonus will go in John Lewis’ Bonus Save scheme. She has a four year plan to eventually visit Scandinavia to see the Northern Lights.
“It might seem a little boring to be saving my bonus but I’ve always wanted to go to Scandinavia and when I do, I want to do it in style. I’ve been a Partner since 1992 and it’s so rare to find an employer that offers such amazing perks but it’s things like this that makes John Lewis such a great place to work.”
