Trophies stolen from an Indian restaruant have been returned in perfect condition - plus an apology note.

In January, thieves broke in to Calcutta Brasserie in Stony Stratford to steal awards including the 2014 Best Asian Restaurant from the MK Food & Leisure Awards and the 2014 British Curry Finalist Award.

Despite desperate appeals for their return, staff had accepted they would never be returned - until now.

On Friday morning, a staff member discovered the hoard in the doorway with a note that read: “Sorry for taking your trophies, my mum found them and made me return them. Sorry for any trouble caused. M.”

Ali Ajmol, manager at Calcutta Brasserie said: “We are naturally happy to have the trophies back as they mean a lot to us and we have worked hard to achieve them.

“We’re not angry with the person that took them and just grateful for their safe return, plus it sounds like his or her mother will be handing out her own punishment.”
