Stony Stratford cricket teams to play at Campbell Park

STONY Stratford Cricket Club have confirmed that their 1st and 2nd sides will play at Campbell Park next season after reaching an agreement with the Parks Trust.

Stony Stratford, represented by four league teams on a Saturday and two on a Sunday – as well as a growing and successful junior section of nearly 200 boys and girls – agreed a one-year deal with the Parks Trust last week. However, the long-term plan is for the teams to play there for up to the next five seasons.

This new arrangement means Stony Stratford will be the only club in the Northamptonshire Cricket League with all teams playing on ‘A’ grade pitches, as the move will allow the 3rd and 4th sides to play at the club’s Ostlers Lane ground. They previously played on council pitches in Great Linford and Woughton on the Green.

Campbell Park has already hosted some impressive fixtures, including County Championship and 20/20 cricket for Northamptonshire, England Ladies internationals, and charity games involving the much acclaimed Lashings team.

Just last season a major renovation of the pavilion at Ostlers Lane was finished thanks to a grant from Sport England, providing excellent facilities for U7s right through to adult teams for many years to come.

The opportunity to play at Campbell Park – used by the Northants Academy side for the last couple of years – has been described as too good to turn down.

Mike Smith, chairman of Stony Stratford CC, said: “The club’s ambition and commitment to provide the finest facilities, coaches and playing area for cricket at Stony Stratford is vitally important. Our juniors represent our future and providing the best with the chance to become the best is the committee’s goal and legacy.”
