Stranger swung pole at victim’s head for not having a spare cigarette

A man had a pole swung at his head at a city bus stop because he did not have a cigarette.

The 23-year-old victim was patted down and sworn at when he was asked for one by a stranger sitting in the shelter at Walnut Tree roundabout in Tongwell Street.

The man then began to swing a pole at the victim before taking his white Samsung S6 Edge mobile phone and walking up the stairs towards Juniper Gardens.

The offender is white, 5ft 7ins, with brown hair and brown facial hair, and he had dirty hands.

He was wearing a hoodie, a knee-length zip-up dark green jacket which had red sleeves and worn.

The incident happened at around 7am on Wednesday.
