Students bury time capsule

OLDBROOK pupils are looking to the future after burying their very own time capsule in the school grounds to mark the construction of a new extension.

The capsule was filled with items including a letter to future pupils telling them what life was like in Oldbrook in 2011, a letter to a future headteacher, a sample of the children’s work, photos of each class, some uniform and an information booklet about the school.

In order to create their own piece of history, the pupils hope that the capsule will not be opened until June 2021 – 10 years after it was buried.

The new extension to the school includes an improved entrance area, specialist teaching space and a learning suite.

The construction project is due to be completed this month, ready for the new school year starting in September.

Headteacher Kirk Hopkins said: “We are really excited about using the new areas of our school in September.

“The children have enjoyed seeing how it has been constructed and the time capsule is our chance to put our stamp on it.”
