A rockin’ and rollin’ musical is on its way to Stantonbury Theatre – and it’s electrifyin’.
Milton Keynes Amateur Operatic Society members have been perfecting their hand jiving in preparation for their production of Grease, with curtain up from June 17 to 21.
The award-winning group is packed full of local talent. Many of the performers have been involved in professional productions – some as far afield as the Bahamas.
The lead role of ‘bad boy’ Danny Zuko is taken by Peter Corrigan, who previously played Sammie in Bill Kenwright’s UK tour of Blood Brothers, as well as covering Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group.
‘Grease’ is a story of teen romance, fast girls, faster cars and plenty of good old rock ‘n’ roll.
The year is 1959 and ‘girl next door’ Sandy Dumbrowski is the new girl at Rydell High School.
She had a romance over the summer with a nice young man called Danny – and it turns out that he is here at this very school as the leader of the ultra-cool T-Birds gang.
Wholesome Sandy describes her summer romance to the Pink Ladies (tough Rizzo, fun-loving Frenchy, beautiful Marty and kooky Jan) and soon all the teenagers are involved in navigating the complexities of love.
MKAOS will be belting out all the unforgettable songs from the hit movie, including You’re The One That I Want, Grease Is The Word, Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted To You and Greased Lightnin’.
