Staff at Nationwide Building Society are inviting the local community to enjoy a slice of cake tomorrow, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

This year, Nationwide is the official Community Partner for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, and the MK branch in Silbury Blvd is inviting customers and staff to come together and raise vital funds for people affected by cancer, to help ensure no one faces cancer alone.

Jill Richardson, customer host at the MK branch was diagnosed with cancer last year.

“After being diagnosed with breast cancer last summer, I was so grateful for the physical and emotional support that I received from Macmillan.

“Our branch has always loved getting involved in Macmillan’s Coffee Morning, but this year we’ll be pushing ourselves to make it extra special because we understand the huge difference Macmillan’s support can make. We’ll be celebrating with the usual baked goodies, bunting and balloons and raising as much money and awareness as we can for this amazing charity.”

Branch manager Suzanne Grant says, “We are delighted to be supporting Macmillan and we are looking forward to sharing a cuppa and a treat (or two!) with our customers and members of the community to raise much needed funds for such a valuable cause.

“Many of us know someone like Jill who has been affected by cancer, so Macmillan is a charity that’s close to our hearts. At Nationwide, we believe life’s better when we share and even better when we share time together for a good cause.”

Last year Nationwide raised more than £150,000 through Coffee Mornings for Macmillan and over the past 23 years has raised £7.7 million for the charity.

More than £200 was raised at the Silbury Blvd branch last year and they are hoping to beat that amount on Friday.

By 2020, almost half of the population will get cancer at some point in their lives and so continued support is essential, enabling Macmillan to provide emotional, practical, medical and financial support for the growing number of people living with cancer.
