THE city’s accident and emergency department was poised for a deluge of casualties during last week’s threatened riots.
But there was only one riot-related injury – and that was a police officer who had been bitten by a police dog.
One visitor to A&E on Tuesday evening, said: “Two police officers, dressed in full riot gear walked in
“One had a hand injury and said he had been bitten by a police dog.
“Luckily it didn’t seem serious and he only needed a tetanus injection.”
A police spokesman said the bite was purely accidental.
He told the Citizen: “The officer made an error of judgement and came within the biting arc of the dog, which had previously been deployed to other incidents of public order.”
