Teen singing star Bailey McConnell will NOT switch on the city’s Christmas lights next week - despite 160,000 leaflets promising otherwise.
Instead, the Britain’s Got Talent contestant will be support act for comedian Peter Kay at Blackpool’s Christmas Lights event that same night.
But Melanie Beck, manager of Milton Keynes City Centre Management (MKCCM), says that the event, the first of its kind in the city, will still be a success.
She said: “We are disappointed and feel let down that a mess-up by other people is overshadowing our fantastic event that we have spent months organising.
“Bailey’s management now say he will perform at 11am on the day, but that is just an opportunity for him - not for the benefit of the lights switch-on.
“Our event will continue whether the young gentleman can make it or not.”
But Bailey’s manager Dom Rampello claims he was never “officially” approached about the Midsummer Boulevard event, which is organised by MKCCM with intu Milton Keynes, thecentre:mk and Milton Keynes Council.
He said: “It is cross commmunication. It is absolutely not a case of snubbing Milton Keynes. It was loosely discussed, but no one approached us officially. Blackpool was contracted a long time ago, so unfortunately we were already booked.”
> MK Mayor Derek Eastman will switch on the lights on November 22 at the horseshoe area outside intu at 5pm.
