GREEN Gym volunteers used an unusual mode of transport to get to their place of work on Thursday.

Setting off to clear trees on a small island in the middle of the lake in the City Discovery Centre they opted for the only safe way of reaching the island – by using a boat to row across.

It was a relatively new experience for members of the group who were also tasked with steering clear of the overhanging branches in the water while aiming for the landing spot.

Monique van Assouw, BTCV Community Project Officer in Milton Keynes, said: “It was an excellent morning spent chatting away, getting fitter and doing valuable conservation work in a beautiful setting, all at the same time. And using the boat was good fun too.”
