Vandals and thieves have struck at Stony Stratford Football Club for the second time in a fortnight.

At the end of May, vandals damaged dug outs, ripped out stand seats and pulled a cable box away from one of the floodlights at the ground on Ostlers Lane, exposing electrical cables and causing thousands of pounds of damage.

On Tuesday night, they struck again, stealing a mower and two pitch markers.

Both incidents are estimated to have cost the club over £2,500.

Club chairman, Philip Smith, said it was ‘awful’.

He said: “It is getting beyond a joke. We are all volunteers and we provide football for adults and children every weekend and I am beginning to wonder why we are doing it.

“We will try to repair what has been done and will make inspections of the ground more regularly ourselves, but we are people who are working. We can’t be there all the time.”
