A hardy trio of colleagues from a city store tackled Ben Nevis to raise funds for Sue Ryder.

The team from Morrisons in Milton Keynes battled snowy weather conditions to conquer Sue Ryder’s Ben Nevis at Sunrise challenge on Sunday, May 31.

Gill Watson, Sarah Munton and Kevin Essex joined dozens of other store staff from across the UK to climb the UK’s highest peak to raise money for Morrisons’ national charity partnership with health and social care charity Sue Ryder.

With the poor weather conditions on the day, they didn’t manage to get all the way to the summit - but they reached a height of 900m and are hoping to raise more than £400 towards the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership, which is funding the expansion of Sue Ryder’s end of life care services across the UK.

The Ben Nevis at Sunrise challenge was organised following the success of a Snowdon at Sunrise event for Morrisons colleagues last year, which raised more than £12,000 towards the Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder.

Kevin, who completed Snowdon at Sunrise and also recently starred in the Morrisons-sponsored Britain’s Got Talent adverts, said: “We were told to prepare for harsh weather conditions and it was a tough climb; but still a great experience.

“The whole team is really proud of what we achieved and we’re delighted to have raised so much towards our national charity partnership with Sue Ryder.”

Money raised through the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder is funding new community healthcare services, family support teams and an online community with online support, providing the best possible care to people at the end of their lives and support for their families.
