UNPLUGGED in the Park, the first of four exciting, all free festivals flowing from Campbell Park during the summer months, cuts loose this weekend.

The two-day enticement is a cracking way to sample some of the best sounds from the area, while escaping the rat race and chilling out in the sun...well, we can but hope that it will be rays and not rain that beats down on us.

Regardless of the weather though, the line-up is a total scorcher.

Del Bromham is a GO! fave, and a legend in his field with a long and fruitful career to his name.

He has toured with many rock heavyweights, and influenced many more, and once met, people never forget the man Bromham – decades ago Del’s band Stray performed with ‘the hottest band in the world, ‘Kiss, and last year Gene Simmons name checked our guy, saying he was one of the best guitarists he’s ever seen.

Only a couple of months back Danny Baker and Boy George regaled radio listeners with their memories of watching Del live over the years.

These stories are ten a penny though, because the chirpy new-city dweller is the real deal and people gravitate to quality.

You will too, when Del and his Blues Devils headline Saturday’s session.

It’ll be a nice return to live form for the fella who has spent the past few weeks in the studio crafting a new long-player, which is something else to look forward to.

The rest of Saturday’s bill is pretty tasty too, with the Bex Marshall Band and Pearl Handled Revolver showing the blues with classy sets, and loads of others stepping to the stage.

On Sunday, Nicky Prince takes the top spot.

Her voice is as soulful as it is sensational, as many of you will know already – she has spent years dazzling the new city in various bands.

She is faultless and fantastic, and another lady whose passion runs rife in her deliveries.

You either have ‘it’ or you don’t.

Nicky most certainly has it.

Former 1000 Hertz screamer Pete Odd brings his Dead Seas to the party on Sunday, and Gilly Nina Giddings, the voice behind the current Willen Hospice fundraising track, is another highlight for Sunday that needs to be heard.

But with price not an issue, you can settle on the grass nice and early and let the sounds soothe you all day long.

Unlplugged in the Park runs from midday to 10.30pm both days, and with plenty of food stands, a licensed bar and market area to get excited about, you really can make a day of it.

We should say cheers to those sponsoring the event too, including Hobgoblin Music, Eastwood, The Old School Studios and Marshall Amplification.

NEW city lairy noise-makers R.S.I are taking their sounds to Portsmouth on Saturday.

They are part of the Punk By The Sea Festival happening at the Southsea Promenade and also featuring The Damned, Bad Manners and UK Subs...

> UNDERPASS Promotions host a couple of meaty shows at The Craufurd Arms this week – tomorrow night Charlee Drew, Tonight is Electric and George K take on the Wolverton venue, and tickets are a fiver in advance, a little more on the door.

> On Saturday, punk-oiks Anti- Nowhere League take the Craufurd stage...32 years into their career. Treat yourselves, splash a tenner and go watch the lairies with longevity at play.

Doors for both gigs from 7.30pm.
