Volunteers from Santander teamed up with Shelter to revamp the reception and interview rooms in the charity’s Milton Keynes office.

14 volunteers from the bank ensured that the walls were cleaned and repainted, with colours chosen specifically to create a calming atmosphere. To further help the cause, the bank contributed £250 towards the decorating materials used in the renovation.

Yung Hui Chong, a risk analyst at Santander, Grafton Gate, said: “The day went well, everyone had a great time and it was a good opportunity for us to bond as a team outside of the office. It was really rewarding to help out such a great cause and the experience has definitely encouraged us to take part in more schemes like this in the future.”

Catriona Wojcik from Shelter said: “We’re sure that the bright new atmosphere created by the refurbishment will have a positive impact on both our clients and our staff. It was a pleasure to meet the team and we were amazed by how many volunteers took part. We want to thank everyone for their help and very kind contribution; we rely on donations to help alleviate homelessness for people, both locally and nationally, so activities like these are a huge help.”

Through its Community Days scheme, Santander encourages staff to take a day out of the office to volunteer with a local cause. Last year over 1,000 members of staff took part in 100 projects.
