A marketing supremo has made a splash by winning the International Swimming Hall of Fame’s President’s Award.
Melanie Beck, head of marketing and communications at thecentre:mk, was rewarded for going ‘above and beyond’ to promote the ISHOF with an exhibition. As chairman of British Diving she was also given the Duraflex Award.
Melanie has been involved in diving since she was 18, gaining a national judging certification and becoming Hertfordshire County diving secretary. She has been chairman of British Swimming’s Technical Diving Committee and FINA Diving World Series director.
The exhibition, held in Middleton Hall in July last year, saw an extensive history of awards and medals from the first Olympics in 1896 to 2008.
Melanie said: “It was an enormous surprise to receive the notification from the International Swimming Hall of Fame and deeply humbling to receive the award particularly as it is not bestowed on an annual basis. To be placed alongside the greats from aquatics of Michael Phelps, Marks Spitz, Johnny Weissmuller and Esther Williams is unbelievable.”
