Customers and staff at motorways service station Welcome Break Newport Pagnell raised £13,000 for BBC Children in Need this year.

Generous customers of the Newport Pagnell service station helped to raise the grand total for this year’s fundraising campaign in a number of ways.

They bought Welcome Break BBC Children in Need ‘Are We There Yet?’ t-shirts and were given the option of making a donation at the till when buying something.

‘Spend a Penny, Save a Penny’ boxes were placed in the customer toilets, ‘Spend the Night, Spare a Penny’ envelopes encouraged visitors staying at the Days Inn and Ramada Hotels to donate to the charity and donation boxes could be found around the service areas.

Rod McKie, CEO of Welcome Break, said: “We are overwhelmed at the generosity of the Newport Pagnell Welcome Break customers and want to thank the people in the local area for their continued support. In 2012, Welcome Break raised a combined grand total of £411,375 and this year we managed to reach £520,000! We couldn’t be more thankful that we have been even more successful this year and we are thrilled that we can provide this large donation to the charity that aids disadvantage people that are right here in the UK.”
