West Side walk through Bernstein’s brilliance
Bernstein
WHEN Leonard Bernstein was a youngster with compositions yet to bloom, a friend remarked ‘Lenny is doomed for success.’
How right that friend was – as a composer, conductor, pianist and broadcaster he was one of the greatest talents of the last century, a man whose work was able to dance across moods and moments, genres and traditions: from Jewish sacred to the rhythmic verve of Stravinsky, and from ragtime, blues and jazz elements to the snappy melody of the Broadway musical.
Tonight at the Church of Christ the Cornerstone, the Exploring Music season will take a closer look at the man and his music, which also includes that beautiful score to the classic film, West Side Story.
Join host Adrian Boynton from 7.45pm.
Admission is £4, payable on the door.
