Wilkinson store plea for winter coats

Staff at The Wilkinson store in Bletchley are urging customers to help support their charity of the year, Age UK, by donating their old winter coats in a bid to help raise extra funds to keep elderly people in the community warm this winter.

The initiative sees collection points being put into Wilkinson stores this week for customers, and staff to donate their old winter coats to be sold on and loved again, through Age UK shops, with all profits going to Age UK’s vital winter warmth projects.

Wilkinson, who has over 360 stores across the country, will be taking part in this initiative on a nationwide basis, giving their customers and staff the opportunity to donate until 31st January 2012.

Each winter, at least 250 elderly people die needlessly from the effects of cold weather, but with Age UK’s support older people can get benefits and grants to help with heating costs; get access to groceries during bad weather and gain some important human contact, for those who would otherwise have none.

Celebrities have already pledged their support, with Helen Mirren and Stella McCartney among others donating their old winter coats to help the cause.

Donate your old winter coats now, to your local Age UK branch, or at Wilkinson stores nationwide.
