A TENNIS club is about to start five weeks of extra coaching - thanks to a £250 donation from a Indian restaurant.
Wolverton Tennis Club is hoping the deal with VerandahTalk will help young players reach their maximum potential.
The club, based in Osborne Street, will be putting on extra lessons for both the mini-tennis red team and mini-tennis orange team, Under 8’s and under 9’s.
Five mini-tennis red players and three mini-tennis orange players have been selected to take part in the extra practice sessions.
VerandahTALK - which offers an eclectic mix of Indian and Lebanese food - joined forces with the tennis club in the hope of helping it find the next Andy Murray or Tim Henman; or simply to nurture a new breed of tennis enthusiasts ready to sit on Henman Hill or Murray Mount.
The scheme, known as the VerandahTALK Mini-Tennis Programme, will be run in addition to Wolverton Tennis Club’s normal free coaching provided as part of its club scheme.
VerandahTALK boss Taj Raja, himself a keen tennis player, said he has a passion for the sport and a desire to put something back into the community in Wolverton.
He said: “It is really important for a business to be part of the community it serves.
“We are proud to be part of a close knit community which has been extremely supportive ever since we opened our doors in 2009. I am equally pleased to hear of the improvements young tennis players have made since we launched this scheme.
“We would love to help them bring through a star name of the future, but it is just as important to encourage a love of the sport among youngsters in Wolverton.”
Based in Osborne Street, Wolverton Tennis Club was formed in 1903 and has a full quota of mens, womens and colts fixtures.
Tennis club spokesman Pete Tolaini said: “As a small club we know that not all parents can afford extra lessons so this donation is helping to further the kids skills and offer extra sessions.
“Other tennis clubs get double and triple time on the practice courts, it’s hard to keep up.
“Since Taj Raja has given us the donation the standard has improved significantly, especially with the ‘reds’.”
VerandahTALK offers a wide variety of traditional Indian dishes made from high quality produce and seasonal ingredients.
The restaurant is based on Stratford Road (opposite Tescos store), Wolverton and can be contacted by calling 01908 317300 or via email at email@example.com
