Woman accused of Fishermead deaths pleads not guilty

A WOMAN from Corby has pleaded not guilty to two counts of manslaughter in connection with the deaths of a mother and her daughter in a house fire in Fishermead.

Barbara Zhanje, 48, from Rockingham Road, Corby, appeared at Luton Crown Court on Thursday, December 23, where she entered a plea of not guilty to both counts of manslaughter.

The bodies of Bola and Fiyin Ejifunmilayo, from Nigeria, were discovered by the fire service 36 hours after the blaze which forced residents out into the street in the early hours of Sunday, September 5, prompting an investigation.

Zhanje was released on conditional bail and is due to appear for trial at St Albans Crown Court on Monday, February 28, 2011.
