A Woodhill Prison officer charged with misconduct in public office for allegedly selling information to The Sun has appeared in court.
Richard Trunkfield, who was employed as a prison operational support officer at HMP Woodhill at the time of the alleged offence in 2010, appeared at Westinster Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
He is charged with selling information in relation to a “high-profile prisoner” to The Sun on two occasions, in March and April 2010.
The court heard he was alleged to have received £3,350 for the information.
A bail condition preventing him contacting anyone from News International was imposed.
He was bailed to appear at Southwark Crown Court on March 8 for a further hearing.
