A 17-YEAR-OLD teenager has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment after being found guilty of raping a four-year-old girl in Emberton Park, Olney.
The boy, from Houghton Regis, who can not be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of one count of rape by a jury at Huntingdon Crown Court on Friday, May 6, after a 14-day-trial last July.
The incident happened on 13 August 2009 at 3.30pm at Emerberton Park, Olney, where the victim had gone with her family to feed the ducks. The offender approached the victim as she played in a busy children’s play park. Twelve days later the victim identified the offender, who was still wearing the distinctive T-shirt he was wearing, in a local shop. Police were called and the boy was arrested and later charged.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Vigurs, who led the investigation, said: “We are pleased for the victim and her family that the offender in this case has now been sentenced. The victim has been incredibly brave throughout the investigation and the subsequent court cases and seeing her giving evidence reminded me of how brave she has been.
“Despite her young age, she was able to give a detailed account of what happened to her. I hope now both the victim and her family can start to put this ordeal behind them.”
