WHEN he told City Nights there would be ‘a lot of stuff happening in 2013,’ Zaheer wasn’t kidding.

Just seven weeks into the new year and the Wolverton-based musician, producer and certified man with a plan has already been making a fuss.
BBC Introducing put forward their top three artists of 2012 from Beds, Herts & Bucks and Zaheer trumped all others, taking the top spot.

Consequently, he was invited to appear on Mistajam’s show for an interview and two song showcase.

And you can’t keep good a good sound down: The next day, Trevor Nelson gave new single Things I’ve Seen a spin on his show, before 1Xtra DJ Sarah-Jane Crawford treated listeners to another listen.

The video for Things I’ve Seen – lifted from the forthcoming Mood Swings EP – is online now, while it’s predecessor Assemble remains rooted in the playlists of a clutch of urban music channels.

Assemble pulled together a slew of urban talents – Abiade, Rukus, Swami Baracus (who worked with Zaheer on The Recipe), Genesis Elijah and Shaodow.

Both tracks will appear on the EP, slated for a spring release.

Rather than cultivating the sounds of others, it’s now Zaheer in the light, and the next few months are looking marvellously manic: “I will be releasing Mood Swings for international distribution on every site you can think of, and drop a few more videos off it,” Zaheer told CIty Nights.

“I’ve also got another production EP in the pipeline with Swami Baracus...I have a few singles planned with some bigger names on the urban music scene and will stay as productive as I can, while trying to get my music to as many people as possible.”

“All I want is for my music to make an impact on people like music has made an impact on me.

“I want people to connect with the sounds of my music or the stories artists tell.”

And Zaheer isn’t about to let his deliveries be lumped into any particular genre.

“I think my production style is very varied...I delve into different genres a lot.

“If you’re a fan of good music I think you’ll be able to appreciate my work,” he said.

Zaheer has spent the past couple of years ploughing time and talent into his craft and those dividends are paying off: “It’s all about staying persistent, productive and keeping at it,” he says.

We’ll be following that productivity all the way.
