MILTON Keynes Dons have today (Thursday) cut their ties with Wimbledon FC after handing over the club's history and trophies to Merton Council.
Following a lengthy negotiation period, the transfer was completed as part of the written accord between Milton Keynes Dons FC, Milton Keynes Dons Supporters Association (MKDSA), Wimbledon Independent Supporters Association (WISA) and the Football Supporters Federation (FSF).

As part of the agreement, the FSF and WISA will call off any supporter boycotts of MK Dons matches and the FSF will present the MKDSA with a certificate of membership.

The FSF and Milton Keynes Dons FC have agreed that achievements of the club prior to July 2004, shall be referred to as the achievements of Wimbledon FC.

Club trophies and artefacts, including the replica of the FA Cup won in 1988, will be handed to the Merton Civic Centre where representatives of the London Borough of Merton and MK Dons Chairman Pete Winkelman will formally sign the deed of transfer allowing the items to go onto public display within the Borough.

Now the only remaining link MK Dons have with Wimbledon is the Dons part of the club's name.

Pete Winkelman said: "This is an historic day, and I am grateful for the tireless work of our supporters, the engagement of WISA and the leadership shown by the FSF.

"Wimbledon FC's history, the family silverware, has been returned to its home in Merton and there can be no doubt that this was the most amicable solution best suited to all parties."

MKDSA Chairman John Brockwell said: "The MKDSA are pleased that all parties have reached an agreement that allows the patrimony to be viewed by supporters in a neutral and accessible location for all.

"We also welcome the opportunity to formally join the Football Supporters Federation and assist in its fine work to ensure that the "beautiful game" develops in this country with the valuable input of supporter representation."

Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Mike Barry said: "I'm pleased that the patrimony of Wimbledon will now be in the safe hands of my counterpart in Merton as we look forward to creating a new history for the club in Milton Keynes."
