A man on benefits who sold counterfeit goods at a car boot sale to supplement his income has been handed a conditional discharge.
Trading standards officers caught Andrew Glasgow, of Tandra, Beanhill, selling a large quantity of imitation clothes - including Prada jeans,
Nike T-Shirts and Louis Vuitton sunglasses - at a car boot sale in Potterspury.
The 56-year-old who had
pleaded guilty to six charges of selling fake goods at a previous hearing was sentenced to a two-year conditional discharge at Northampton Magistrates' Court.
Magistrates heard that on June 25 last year trading standards officers caught Glasgow with a large quantity of counterfeit clothes at Potterspury Car Boot Sale.
Among the fake designer branded goods in his possession were 29 pairs of Prada jeans, 49 pairs of Armani jeans, 35 Nike T-shirts, three Ralph Lauren T-shirts, 72 Louis Vuitton sunglasses and five Lacoste jackets.
Defending, Kristian Garsed said his client had charged only a small amount of money for the products, which were poor quality.
He said: "It's accepted there was a large quantity of counterfeit good involved, but they were of poor quality.
"It was never Mr Glasgow's intention to make a large profit, but simply to supplement his income. Unfortunately he gave in to the impulse to alleviate his financial hardship."
As well as handing the defendant a two year conditional discharge, magistrates ordered the counterfeit goods to be destroyed and Glasgow to pay £150 towards costs.
