Golfer finishes runner-up to Harrington
Milton Keynes-based golfer Ian Poulter had a successful weekend after finishing second at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.

Poulter ended the tournament seven over, four adrift of winner Padraig Harrington, to beat his previous best of tied ninth at the 2006 USPGA.

The 32-year-old started his final round with two bogeys in the first three holes but was three under for the remainder of his round.

But he remained the clubhouse leader until Padraig Harrington, playing in the final group, struck a back nine of 32 including an eagle on 17 to retain his title.

Poulter missed birdie chances at 13 and 17, particularly on the penultimate hole when he left a long putt short.

"It could have very possibly been so much better," he said.

"At the start of the day you have a score in mind and I shot what I thought was a good round of golf. I would have taken one under par before I went out.

"I should have finished a couple more under par. I missed a good opportunity on 13 from five feet and then I go and three-putt on 17, which is a little bit frustrating.
