SMILE! Free Milton Keynes courses to boost the spirits of people with anxiety or depression

A free helping hand is on offer to make people who are feeling depressed or anxious smile again.

Smile:)MK has already helped more than 200 local people improve their mental health and wellbeing.

Run as part of the council’s adult education programme, it is open to anybody with mild to moderate depression, anxiety or sleep disorders.

The courses,all free of charge, range from two hour workshops to weekly sessions and are held at various community locations in MK.

They include Art for Wellbeing, Meditation and Relaxation, Anger Awareness, Managing Your Money and Go With the Flow.

More than one quarter of adults in MK experience a diagnosable mental health problem in any one year.

Symptoms experienced can include feelings of hopelessness, guilt, irritability, panic, loss of self-confidence and a lack of interest in life.

According to numerous research studies, learning and education can have a positive effect on wellbeing.

The Smile:)MK courses also give people the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation, form new friendships and learn new coping skills and strategies.
