Luke Chadwick's stunning debut at Millwall on Saturday caps what has been a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the talented winger who once plied his trade at Newport Pagnell's Willen Road ground.
As a 13-year-old Chadwick made the trip from his home in Cambridge to play for a Newport Pagnell Town side who were commonly known as the best for miles around.
It was there that his road to the top level of English football began, being spotted by Arsenal but then signing for Manchester United.
And after completing his loan move from Norwich City last week and starring in the Dons' superb 4-0 demolition of Millwall, the now 27-year-old midfielder recalled his time at Willen Road.
He said: "We had a really good team and we had lads travelling from all over the place to play.
"I really enjoyed playing there, it was really good fun.
"I never moved to Milton Keynes, I just played there. We even had lads from London coming up because we had such a good, young team.
"We used to play a year up and I remember the team as being just unbelievable. It was one of the best teams I have ever played in, we won the league and it was a great time.
Chadwick only stayed for one season after a rule change meant he could no longer play for both Manchester United and Newport.
But after a decent career that saw him make 25 appearances for United, he now finds himself back where it all started. And he is loving every minute of it.
"Millwall was a great result for us. They started off really well with the fans on top of you but once we weathered the storm I thought we did really well," he said.
And Chadwick has admitted that an extended stay at stadium:mk might not be out of the question as he looks forward to making his home debut in tonight's (Tuesday) Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie.
"I really like it here, it's perfect for me as I've got family in Cambridge. I will just have to see what happens, but I've settled in really well."
