The strong blustery wind and threatening rain did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the 828 runners who finished the inaugural Adidas Milton Keynes Half Marathon on Sunday.
Setting off from the Open University the race moved on to the V10 and then eastwards to Simpson before turning north though Woughton and Woolstones to loop around Willen Lakes.
The return south brought the runners down through Middleton and across Monkston where the full force of the wind hit hard as they zigzagged onto the H8 back through Woughton before looping round to the OU.
The first runner back to the Open University was veteran Garry Payne (M45) of George Elliot Striders with a fine time in the tough conditions of 1hr 12m 34s.
Over one minute behind was the first senior runner Mark Bryant (Harrow AC) in 1hr 13m 53s followed by the first Milton Keynes Athletic Club runner Didier Oesch in 1hr 15m 08s.
Colin Steptoe (Vale of Aylesbury) was eighth and first of the over 50 runners with an excellent 1hr 19m 36s while ninth and second of the over 40 runners was Charles Green (Sutton Runners) with 1hr 19m 41s. Tenth spot was taken by second of the over 50 runners Ian Russell (MKAC) in 1hr 20m 04s.
Just outside the top 10 was Graham Patton (Sphinx AC), who set a spectacular 1hr 20m 31s and was first of the over 60 runners.
Third in the over 40 race was Mick Kelly (MKAC) with 1hr 20m 48s while second over 50 runner was Michael Groom (MKAC).
The first woman back was over 35 runner Tracy Galbraith (Headington RR) with 1hr 23m 42s, while the first senior was Jane Preen (unattached) in 43rd place with 1hr 26m 33s. Second was Mandy Livingstone (Garden City Runners) in 1hr 27m 04s and third place went to Amanda White (unattached) in 1hr 33m 05s.

For the over 55 runners, Rosemary Muston (MKAC), was first home with 1hr 36m 30s followed by Margaret Crowe (MKAC) in 1hr 52m 30s.
The first junior (under 20) home was Max Dillon with 1hr 29m 56s in 2nd place was Thomas Latchford in 1hr 35m 42s and 3rd was Alex Squires in 1hr 40m 05s.
