Dons continue impressive away form
A rare goal from captain Dean Lewington sent MK Dons to their fourth consecutive league win as they overcame a stubborn 10-man Hartlepool.
Danny Wilson's side had Sam Collins controversially sent off after 26 minutes after bringing down Jemal Johnson on the edge of the box.
It allowed the visitors to get a foot in the game and Lewington scored his first goal in almost two years – and with all things his right foot.
Mark Wright got his first of the season two minutes later as Dons looked to have the game secured.
But Sean O'Hanlon scored an own goal just 20 seconds into the second half to make the game competitive again.
The Monkey Hangers fought hard till the end for an equaliser until academy youngster Daniel Powell, making his debut for the club, secured
the win deep into stoppage time.
The win keeps Dons right in the title mix-up and continues their impressive away form.
The home side started well and Willy Gueret had a kick closed down by Joel Porter sparking panic in the Dons defence, he crossed into the 'keeper-less box but O'Hanlon cleared.
Then Michael Nelson had a header well saved by Gueret.
Hartlepool continued to look threatening as Porter then pulled a shot across goal.
But then Dons were handed a way into the game when Collins was harshly sent off for hauling down Johnson, although he didn't appear to have the ball under control.
From the resulting free kick Ali Gerba had a shot blocked – it fell nicely for O'Hanlon though whose snap shot was superbly saved.
Dons did go one better soon after though as Lewington managed to break through Clark's tackle and then a hit a right foot curling shot into the top corner from 22-yards cueing wild celebrations from his team mates.
It was his first goal since he scored at Notts County in February 2007.
Dons then pounced on their wounded visitors as minutes later Johnson got a yard of space on the right and crossed across the goal for Wright to tap home.
At half time the game looked over but Wilson's side had other ideas, scoring with their first attack of the second half.
Kevin Kyle broke down the right and lashed in a hopeful cross that was diverted into the net by the outstretched boot of O'Hanlon.
It was game on from then as the home side looked rejuvenated.
But Dons did well to stop their advances and reduce their chances.
A Kyle header that was gratefully grasped by Gueret a rare chance one of their few.
In return Dons had a string of long shots from Peter Leven and Jason Puncheon that were well saved.
Hartlepool continued to pump the ball, but without much reward.
Until the final minute when from a Brown free kick Clark headed home, but Dons were saved by the assistant referee's flag, with the defender quickly judged to have been offside.
Then as the home side left themselves open at the back Dons struck on the counter.
Leven sweeped the ball out wide to substitute Aaron Wilbraham, whose cut back found fellow sub Powell who calmly side-footed home.
A great introduction to professional football for the 17-year old.
