Milton Keynes Lions put in a great performance at the RAF Final Fours in the recent U14 basketball league.
England Basketball's national under-14 league is sponsored by the Royal Air Force and teams competed throughout the season to reach the prestigious RAF Final Fours, held at RAF DCAE Cosford near Wolverhampton. The Lions side played some brilliant basketball, and battled hard to bring home the silverware, finishing the best in England.

The Lions started out strong in the semi finals, winning by a thirteen-point advantage over Solent Kestrels, in a closely fought game. Final score:

Milton Keynes Lions: 74

Solent Kestrels: 61

In the Final, Milton Keynes Lions were crowned 2008 RAF Final Fours champions, triumphantly beating London based Westminster Warriors, in a nail bitingly close game. Final score:

Milton Keynes Lions: 72

Westminster Warriors: 57

Head Coach Michael New said: "The guys played fantastically today. As well as a high skill level, they have the ability to really listen and then go out and perform on court. This is quite a rare quality for their age group, so I'm really proud of them. The atmosphere at the Final Fours has been so much fun. It's great that the RAF organises this event - it's brilliant for the players who really benefit from the support shown by the crowds in the stands. "

It's no easy ride getting to the RAF Final Fours, as England Basketball Chief Executive Keith Mair explains: "Many youth teams across England compete for a place in the RAF Final Fours throughout the season, so the players who have reached the semi-finals at RAF Cosford have done tremendously well to get to this point. They have done a brilliant job of proving their ability to play top class basketball, and they should feel a real sense of pride in their achievement."
