Dons look to emergency loans
MK Dons boss Roberto Di Matteo says he is still looking to add new faces to the squad – despite the transfer window shutting this week.

The club's only activity on deadline day was the signing of Spanish defender Miguel Angel Llera on a free transfer.

But Di Matteo said the club did try to bring in another player and he will still be looking to add to his side using the emergency loan system.

He said: "We tried to close one deal but it didn't go through and we left it there.

"I am pretty happy with my squad. I know we maybe need one or two more but I am not going to rush into any deci-sions.

"We've still got the emergency loan system which we can work with so we could still do something there."

He wouldn't reveal who the player is, or what position he plays , but Di Matteo said he is a player he hasn't given up hope of signing.

Asked if he would be back in for him in January he said: "Yes,
definitely.

" We'll keep looking now. If we need to do something with the emergency loans we will, but definitely in January we'll need to reassess one area of the team and we'll be looking to do something. It gives us a bit of time now to find a few new options."

The Dons boss did say the high fees clubs were asking made it difficult to bring players in.

And despite Dons getting an influx of cash from the sale of Keith Andrews to Blackburn for £750,000 rising to £1m, the Italian said he was still priced out of players.

"I've noticed that people have high expectations and the reality is that there are certain budgets here in League One within which you have to work. Players who come from Championship clubs have higher wages and expectations and it is difficult to match that."

And Di Matteo revealed one advantage of the transfer window shutting its doors was no-one can pinch his players!

"It settles the team down a little as we've had to suffer a lot of speculation over the last few months which hasn't helped the team," he admitted.

"We are happy to start working and have them all together.

"I know I have the Spanish boy coming this week, Ali Gerba is coming next week after his two games, so we are slowly starting to mould the team, get them all together to work towards the same objective."

Miguel is the Dons' sixth summer signing and joins fellow foreigners Austrian Florian Sturm, Frenchman Flavien Belson and Canadian Ali Gerba.

And Di Matteo doesn't imagine the language barrier being a problem. But has warned his new signings they must adapt to English life if they want to succeed.

He said: "Florian speaks English, Ali G speaks English, Flavien speaks quite good English, Miguel will have to learn English as fast as possible to communicate with the rest of the team. But I speak a little bit of Spanish.

"When I came over I just learned English as soon as possible. It is very much up to yourself, it depends how you take it.

"If you want to adapt then you'll settle in quite quickly. If you want to be a foreign body in the team then it makes life a little more difficult.

"But the lads that we've signed are very good boys and the other team members have made them feel very welcome and helped them to settle in."
