Basement side down Northants Academy
Stony Stratford produced the shock of the season in the Northants League Premier Division when the basement side beat leaders Northants Academy last Saturday.

Stony made the short trip to Campbell Park to face a side they had never previously beaten – but a tremendous bowling display and confident batting saw them to a seven wicket win.

Academy and England Under 19 skipper Alex Wakely won the toss and elected to bat but he saw his side fall to 102 all out as Steve Bellew claimed 4-32 with two wickets apiece for Richard Lines and Stuart Brandom.

After hitting the first ball of the Stony reply for four, Graeme Carter was caught and Nick Allen fell for one.

At 19-2 the game was evenly poised when Stony skipper Dion Ebrahim was joined by 18-year-old Doug Aris and the pair rebuilt Stony's innings.

The Academy side continued to bowl and field with aggression but the Stony pair held firm and put on 48 for the third wicket.

Crook beat Ebrahim (32) for pace to cartwheel his stumps out of the ground but Paul West joined Aris and the duo saw their side home by seven wickets, West blazing a quickfire 37 not out while Aris remained unbeaten on 32.

Stony still find themselves at the bottom of the table but are now within touching distance of the three sides above them with just three matches left.
