What's in water here in the city?
Vince's view
Well I'm not too sure what's in the water here in Milton Keynes . Lions are BBL Cup champions, BBL Championship contenders and now boast the BBL coach of the year.
The MK Dons are Johnstone's Paint Trophy winners and League Two champions and congratulations go to them on their fine achievements.
I was surprised to be awarded the Coach Of The Year award mainly
because I didn't think many people out of the area recognised what we were doing here in MK.
We captured the BBL Cup and that caught the eye and the way we play our basketball also drew attention but I feel what has clinched it is the fact that our big game performers perform on the big stage, in finals and on television.
The Lions have provided the most exciting of all the games on television this season.
I want to thank my assistant coaches Mike New and Roger Malpass, Nigel Lloyd who had a lot to do with me deciding to coach and British basketball legend Kevin Cadle who kept me on my toes.
But of course it is the Lions players who have made this happen. They have sacrificed their individual game for the benefit of the team as a whole and any one of them could be All Stars if I let them play 35 minutes a game.
I believed we would be more successful as a team if we played collectively but most importantly, we would be fresher at the end of the season. We will find out this weekend.
I must also mention the National League under 14s who retained their
National Championship crown – well done lads!
Saturday see's us facing the Newcastle Eagles at the National Indoor Arena in the BBL Championship semi-finals and this is a real opportunity to put a cherry on the cake of what has been a tremendous season.
The winners – us I'm sure – will play in the final at 5.15pm on Sunday live on Setanta Sports.
In the meantime, they say well done is better than well said – we're off to do!
