Dan signs for Panther
Emberton's Dan Wheldon has announced his move from the Target Chip Ganassi Racing Team to Panther.

Wheldon, who won the 2005 IndyCar series as well as crossing the line first in the Indianapolis 500 that season, originally signed for Panther under a testing agreement in June 2002.

He made his Panther debut in the number 15 Pennzoil-sponsored entry at Chicagoland, finishing 10th. He also started at the Texas Motor Speedway, finishing 15th.

Wheldon then joined Andretti Green Racing the following season, competing in 14 of the 16 races and finishing 11th in the standings. However, he was awarded the rookie of the year award, finishing in the top five no less than five times and gaining nine top-10 finishes.

The 2004 season became his first full season. He gained his first IndyCar series at Twin Ring Motegi and he finished third after qualifying second at the Indy 500. He went from last to first to win at Richmond and won the final race ever at the Nazareth Speedway, finishing runner-up in the series.

He captured the title in the 2005 season, recording seven wins in 17 races and he won the 99th running of the Indy 500 that season.

He then joined Target Chip Ganassi Racing in 2006, winning two more races, and he tied with Sam Hornish Jnr in the battle for the title, losing out because Hornish had sealed more wins.

In 2007, he finished fourth in the standings and the 2008 season sees him fourth again with wins at the Kansas Speedway and the Iowa Speedway under his belt.
