King of the ‘roach-men! That’s golden oldie Ernie Sattler – following a storming win in MKAA’s individual league Lodge round with 30-4-4 of redfins.
When the slabs and skimmers failed to play in Saturday afternoon’s intermittent sunshine, near ‘the steps’, he switched to pole at 12 metres and went at it with classic hemp tactics.
Roach to around six ounces were seemingly queuing up for his bait in a style which must have left Alan Ford (did not weigh at the next peg) with plenty of time to watch a master craftsman in action.
Close to the Kam Tong end Ray Barker had six bream to 6lb for 26-12-4 as Pete Patton landed four slabs for 24-5 at the other end.
Ernie leads the league with three rounds to go.
Newport’s Sherington Road pits produced a nice 23-8 common for Damon Escott (pictured) while down the road John Dolling had a 5-14 tench from Olney’s Ouse.
It was quite an experience for Lilly Farren (pictured) when boyfriend and GoneFishin staffer Jack Moroney persuaded her to try fishing on Lodge for a couple of hours...she ended up with 18-12 of silvers including a pound-plus perch.
Osprey got among the carp, barbel and tench at Pidley Lakes where Kerian Chavder had 137lb, Ed Blaine 99-8 and Steve Carthy 82lb.
Carp dominated Towcester’s Wappenham Water do with Bob Eales landing 51-8, Dave Martin 39lb and Kevin Elliott 31-10 – 16-8 of which was one fish.
MK vets’ Clattercotte midweeker saw Charlie Lancaster out front with 59-3 of brownfish and silvers. Austin Maddocks netted 35lb and Paul Hamilton 20-6.
Towcester vets’ Stockton ressi match saw 14 rods total 235-4...mainly roach plus some crucians. Simon Cordingley caught 39-5, Chris Howard 25-3 and John Balhatchett 22-1.
A tench and a raft of bits put ‘golden peg’ winner Derek Bishop top with 13-1. Barry Witteridge had 7-4 and Dave Lewis 7lb.
That man Sattler still leads DATS’ evening league by four points despite not framing on Tuesday. Richard Lattimer had 11-2-4 on the Black Horse cut with Roy Hefferon 9-2 and Mark Morgan 6-8-8.
Kingfishers opened their match-season with a Mill Road cut sweep where Mick ‘end peg’ Reynolds had 9-5 on pinkie, with Jeff Duguid on 7-10 and Del Rowlandson 6-15. Phil Bennett had his top-three retrieved from far-bank bushes by very helpful folk on a passing boat.
Linford, Wharf canal section: Tom Hefferon (two wins in two weeks) 7-9, Eamon Burke 4-1, Mick Hefferon 1-10-8.
DATS, Stony Main, Ouse: Alan Ford 6-13-8, Paul Chapman 5-13-4, Steve Wright 5-13.
Olney, Ouse, annual cup: Pete Hawley 5-7, Graham Prince 3-3, Barry Glidewell 2lb.
NOTE: Furzton closed for match midnight Saturday to 3pm Sunday.
