As the sun finally started to come out for more than an hour at a time, so did the carp – some to spawn and others to feed like crazy.
And one place where they just couldn’t get enough of anglers’ baits was Alders...where the top six on Sunday totalled more than 1,700lb!
Mark Dickinson won with 360lb, Bernie Fraser bagged 284lb, Myles Phillips 283lb.
On the Grand Union dad and lad Mark and Marcus Woolley (pictured by Steve Sharp) enjoyed a fine canal brace as Mark managed a 21lb two-tone mirror and his son – aged 6 – banked a 13.
At Willen many carp were busy spawning, Monday, and prior to that fish to the high 20s had been being caught.
But big tench were also putting in an appearance as Nathan Quinn (who started fishing on the lake as ‘a kid’ and has just retuned) had carp, bream and two tincas – one estimated at around 9lb.
But he will never know its true weight as it flopped to freedom from his landing net while he was zeroing his scales! He’s now looking to better his 9-13 PB there.
On the down side a very small number of ‘Yeh, but’ types have been spoiling it for all on Willen south, and special bailiff-Parks Trust patrols are being mounted to ensure that they take their anti-social ways elsewhere.
A memorial event for late local matchman Terrie Tapp, at Tofts, saw Maver MK take five out of eight sections, but miss the top three as Gaynor Mills picked up 85-11, Mark Greenway 72lb and Glenn Ribbons 56-9.
Sadly Ray Haynes, who sometimes helped out in son Brian’s MK Angling Centre, passed away on Friday at the age of 91.
Paul Neave walked off £177 richer after winning DATS’ ‘golden peg’ (in its 14th week) on Baileys cut with 7-9 of punch skimmers. Ernie Sattler had 6-7-8, and Paul Chapman 5-4-8 from the other golden peg.
