Athletics: Daniel breaks new ground but misses out on the medals

THERE were some excellent individual performances but sadly no medals for Marshall Milton Keynes Athletic Club at the England Athletics Under 17/15 Championships in Bedford.

U17 Daniel Oderinde twice broke his 100m personal best time to qualify for the final, but couldn’t maintain his form in finishing 6th in 10.94s, having earlier clocked 10.91s in the heat and 10.88s in the semi, coming 2nd in both.

Daniel was also in strong form over 200m, setting another PB in the heat, again finishing 2nd in 22.28s, then 3rd in his semi in 22.42s and finally 8th in the final with 22.85s.

There were two 7th place finishes for Lewis Barnes with 13.66m in the shot and 43.03m in the discus, while in the javelin Edward Wilson came 8th after throwing 48.81m.

U15 Jonathan Pownall just missed out on a medal by finishing 4th in the javelin, throwing 51.01m, after taking 6th in the discus with 35.44m. And in the 3,000m it was 16th for Dominic Murphy 10m 53.19s.

>> The club did well at two Throws Fest events, the first in Biggleswade where in the shot Lewis Barnes putted 14.01m, Emma Beardmore 10.11m, Paige Barnes 7.45m, Laeken Impey 7.14m and Laura Cumino 5.46m.

In the discus Lewis threw 40.99m, Emma 35.02m, Paige 20.62m, Laeken 17.98m and Lauren Presswell 17.08m.

And in the hammer Kayleigh Presswell reached 48.51m, Lewis 47.91m, Emma 40.00m, Laeken 36.66m, Paige 30.24m, Lauren 16.36m and Laura a PB of 16.70m.

Finally in the javelin, Laura threw another PB of 23.04m and Bethan Partridge threw 21.48m.

At the Jumps and Throws Fest in Birmingham in the U17 men age group, Lewis Barnes was 3rd in the shot with 13.58m and 2nd in the discus, throwing 39.82m, and U20 Jackson Curtis won the javelin with 64.48m.

For the U17 women, Laeken Impey was 3rd in the hammer, while U20 Kayleigh Presswell was 3rd in the shot, putting 9.15m, and 1st in the hammer with 47.39m.

In the senior women’s competition it was 2nd in the hammer for Emma Beardmore with 38.68m.

>> At the popular Bearbrook 10k road race near Aylesbury which incorporates the Buckinghamshire Champships, 15th placed Steve Herring (3rd M40) led the club home taking 36m 20s, followed by 26th Gary Blaber 37m 56s, 82nd Di Baldwin (1st F55 and Bucks) 43m 34s, 153rd Maria Calleia (F40) 49m 16s, 190th Jane Goodey (F55) 51m 13s and 333rd Colin Burnett (M60) 1h 2m 41s.
