There was good news for Marshall Milton Keynes AC at Lee Valley where, in the tradition opening match of the track and field season, the club’s women won the Alpha-Beta Trophy Meeting.

The seniors had a clear 39 points win over Herne Hill Harriers, while the U15 team finished 2nd to Dacorum & Tring by a narrow six points to give an overall victory of an amazing 84 points over Dacorum with Victoria Park 3rd.

However, it was not all plain sailing even for the seniors who struggled in the sprints, gaining only one podium place in the B 200m with 2nd for Rita Twum, although the 400m produced 3rd by Amy Botham 65.60s and 2nd for Olivia Fletcher 71.83s.

This standard continued in the 800m with 3rd Sophia Cliffe 2m 33.01s and a win by Carly Scott 2m 35.35s, and there were two 2nd places in the 1500m thanks to Jess Hall 5m 14.70s and Sophie Gibbens 5m 56.74s.

In the 400m hurdles there was a 3rd for Rachel Gibbens 74.39s, with sister Sophie winning in 85.50s. And the pair were together again in the high jump, this time both talking 1st as Rachel cleared 1.55m and Sophie 1.45m.

The long jump resulted in 3rd for Olivia Fletcher 3.77m and 2nd for Emma Beardmore 3.45m who finished 3rd in the shot, putting 10.20m, as was Davina Oduguwa with her 7.74m putt.

The pair was also in the discus as Emma took top spot, throwing 32.65m and Davina 3rd with 15.49m. And finally in the javelin there were 2nd places for Rachel Gibbens 20.72m and Emma Beardmore 18.61m.

The U15 squad did much better in the sprints, starting with a double win in the 100m thanks to Ebony Carr 12.82s and Lizzie Adam 13.34s and the pair almost pulled it off again in the 200m as Ebony won in 26.41, with 2nd for Lizzie 27.59s.

But the middle distances weren’t so good, with the only podiums coming in the 1500m with 1st for Sophie Botham 5m 16.75s and 2nd by Emma Mears 5m 18.37s.

However, two double wins in the shot and javelin gave a much need points boost as Sade Ross and Paige Barnes putted 8.73m and 7.47m, completing the double with throws of 18.24m and 15.78m.

They almost did it again in the discus with Paige taking 2nd, throwing 21.62m, as Sade Ross won with 18.31m.

Finally there were three 2nd places in the high jump by Grace Linnett 1.30m and the long jump with Lizzie Adam 4.30m and Ebony Carr 4.01m.

At the Indoor Pentathlon, also at the Lee Valley complex, Molly Adams (F15) was 23rd as she ran the 60m hurdles in 11.36s, high jumped 1.30m, long jumped 4.27m, putt the shot 5.66m and finished the 800m in 2m 59.15s for 1883 points.

Also indoors in the pole vault competition at Bedford, Emanuela Motta (F17) cleared 2.80m.
