IZZY Ferrada claimed the prestigious Rider of the Day Award at the East England BMX Regional Racing Series Round Five race at Braintree in Essex on Sunday.

Riding against 142 other competitors, the 16-year-old from Great Linford was voted Rider of the Day by all the Regions in East England after being the only girl to take on the boys. Izzy pushed them hard all day and went on to finish third in the final.

“I can’t believe it. This is only the second time in 12 years of racing that I have won a Rider of the Day Award,” said Izzy.

“In a normal race I compete against seven other riders, but when it comes to this award you compete against everyone.

“And to win it on another region’s track makes it extra special. I always race against the boys in East Region races. I just always try my hardest, and I’m disappointed not to win – but this makes up for it.”

Izzy’s next National BMX Racing Series race is this weekend at Derby. Still leading the Series for 15/16 Girls, she hopes to extend her lead with further wins.
