City’s young badminton stars clean up at Nationals

THE city’s TeamForza Badminton Academy is known for producing some quality young players, and enhanced that reputation even further with fantastic success at the English National Badminton Championships last week.

Events were held across the country and seven out of nine titles up for grabs in the U11 and U13 age groups were won by TeamForza players – an unrivalled medals haul won over the two weekends of competitions.

The Championships are the highlight of the 2012 badminton calendar and hundreds of the country’s best players fought it out for the coveted title of National Champions of England.

In total a superb medal haul of 10 gold, two silver and seven bronze medals were won by the David Lloyd-based TeamForza Academy, with seven titles won and 10 new National champions crowned.

Stand out performances came from Jed Arksey, Oliver Chapman, Daniel Ivall, Molly Chapman, Ethan Van Leeuwen – plus Gauri and Sita Morjaria

And head coach Ross Reid is confident this year’s success will continue in the future with many more talented juniors still coming through the TeamForza ranks.

This season will go down as TeamForza’s most successful to date, having cemented its place as one of the top badminton academies in the UK.

“I would like to congratulate all the players who qualified for the Nationals and would like to thank our partners David Lloyd Leisure for providing a fantastic training venue for us,” said Reid.

“Thanks also to the parents and coaches for their outstanding dedication and support to the players.”

The medal winners are as follows: U11 age group: Harry Huang – Boys Singles National gold medallist and English National Singles Champion. He is also the new Boys Doubles gold medallist and Doubles Champion.

Ethan Van Leeuwen – Boys Singles bronze medallist, plus Boys Doubles gold medallist and English National Doubles Champion.

Sita Morjaria – Girls Singles silver medallist, plus Girls Doubles gold medallist and new English National Doubles Champion.

Gauri Morjaria – Girls Singles bronze medallist, plus Girls Doubles gold medallist and new English National Doubles Champion

U13 age group: Callum Hemming – Boys Doubles gold medallist and new English National Doubles Champion.

He is also a Mixed Doubles gold medallist, plus new English National Mixed Champion and Boys Singles bronze medallist.

Fee Teng Liew – Girls Singles gold medallist and new English National Singles Champion.

She is also a Girls Doubles gold medallist, plus new English National Doubles Champion and Mixed Doubles bronze medallist.

Harry Huang – Boys Doubles gold medallist and new English National Doubles Champion. He is also a Boys Singles silver medallist and Mixed Doubles bronze medallist.

Steven Stallwood – Boys Singles bronze medallist. And last but not least, in the U15 age group, Harry Arksey is a Boys Doubles bronze medallist. All medals winners are pictured with coach Ross Reid, above.
