Greg Rutherford recorded his biggest long jump of the year in the Diamond League meet in Oregon on Friday, but it was only enough for third place.
The 26-year-old jumped an encouraging 8.22m to finish in third place, but once again Russia’s Aleksandr Menkov won with a leap of 8.39m.
Rutherford had recorded a best of 8.08m at the previous Diamond League meet held in Shanghai, before winning the Great Manchester City Games with 7.99m. An 8.10m jump at the Qantas Melbourne IAAF World Challenge in April was his best before Friday’s 8.22m in the USA.
Meanwhile Craig Pickering clocked 10.47 in his heat at a competition in Geneva, but slowed in the 100m A final for 5th spot in 10.77s.
