Knights begin defence of speedway title

The 2013 speedway season is up and running, with a mixed bag of results and fortunes for the Milton Keynes Knights.

The Knights’ defence of their Midland Development League crown got off to great start with a 21-15 away win over newcomers Castleford Kings.

After losing Conor Dwyer to injury in a first heat crash, Knights new boys Sam Woods and Nathan Greaves showed their commitment and effort to secure the win in freezing conditions to bring home the win.

The weather has been a big factor in the season so far with all ‘home’ meetings at the Rye House Hoddesdon raceway being postponed.

This meant the Knights travelled to Kings Lynn for a one off Midland Development League Knock Out Cup clash which unfortunately ended in a 20-15 defeat.

This was followed up with a further 21-15 defeat at Stoke where the Knights were only able to field a two-man team of Arron Mogridge and David Holt.

However, last Friday saw the Knights return to form with a 21-15 away win against the Coventry-Mercia Vikings, with Nathan Greaves, David Holt and Lee Springthorpe all riding spectacularly against the strong Vikings side.

The Knights are having a reunion party for ex-riders and supporters. Call 07788 787974 for details.
