THE Men’s 2nds were the biggest winners for Milton Keynes Hockey Club when they left Bicester with a 5-3 success.
While the Men’s 1sts were suffering a 5-0 defeat to Oxford University, the 2nds were producing one of their best displays of the season to maintain their promotion push this season.
MK dominated the opening 10 minutes as Paul Hutchinson went close to opening the scoring with a neat touch that beat the keeper, only for the ball to hit the post. But the same man made no mistake moments later to convert after a simple ball through the middle.
Bicester equalised midway through the half, but MK took control after the break as Giacomo Palmerio fired home from a short corner, before man of the match Jo Vernon scored with a precise direct strike.
That should have been game over, but with 20 minutes remaining Bicester were able to score their second and third goals to level the score at 3-3.
However, MK came good when Palmerio chased down what looked a lost cause and crossed in for Matt Darvell to finish and put the visitors back in front.
Bicester had further chances to grab an equaliser, but on the break Darvell rounded the goalkeeper and was taken down to win a penalty flick. He picked himself up to fire home MK’s fifth goal, securing an excellent away victory.
The Men’s 3rds suffered a 3-2 defeat to Windsor, the 4ths drew 2-2 against Marlow and the 5ths crashed 7-1 to Slough.
However, there was another win for the club’s men as the Samurai team beat West Hamstead 2-1 – Sam Spencer marking his return to the side with a man of the match performance. He scored one goal and Mark Ling the other as MK came from behind to snatch the win.
The Ladies’ 1sts suffered a 4-1 defeat to Hampstead & Westminster, the 2nds lost 4-2 to Kidlington and the 3rds lost 4-0 to Oxford Hawks.
The Ladies’ 1sts were back in action on Sunday and earned a 3-3 draw against Oxford, with goals from Gemma Meredith and Lou Reynolds (2).
