MK Rowing Club members continued their recent good form when they battled the difficult weather conditions at the Bedford Small Boats Head at the weekend.
The highlight for the city club came from the Masters Women who had a fantastic one-two finish in the coxed four event.
The winning crew, Lou Rivett, Hedi Towse, Paula Heywood and Karen Wilson, stormed to victory despite starting the race 20 seconds after the other crew.
Their city team-mates finished just behind them, beating a boat comprised of rowers from Leicester and Peteborough.
Matt Reeder continued the club’s success, securing a respectable 3rd place out of 20 in the novice sculls event, which was a superb result given the stiff competition and tough conditions.
Racing for the first time were a number of members who took up the sport last summer following the club’s learn-to-row programme.
Although the boys were beaten by an experienced crew from Peteborough, they showed strong promise for the upcoming season.
Many of those taking part are due to participate in the English Channel row to help raise much needed funds for the club following massive interest in those wanting to get involved in the sport since London 2012.
The successes also bode well for the upcoming regatta season, which will hopefully see more favourable weather.
