THE hard work of Marshall Milton Keynes Athletic Club’s community sports coach Rick Townsend was recognised this week with the announcement that he had won the South East Region Award for his contribution to Disability Athletics.

The award has a special significance for the club as they have strived for many years to encourage disability athletics in the city, but with little success.

However, following Townsend’s appointment a few years ago, the club have seen some significant results on the track and field, most notably the success of international athletes Thomas Green and Lucie Prosser.

They now represent the city in major competitions around the world and even stand a chance of making Team GB for next year’s Paralympic Games in London.

Townsend’s award presentation will be later this year.
