EIGHT members of the Stantonbury Campus-based Region Four Tang Soo Do club achieved a fantastic medal haul when they competed in the sport’s 32nd National Championships in Watford.
In the children’s events, both Krishan Badiani and Nathan Rees began positively in the forms event as Krishan took gold in his group, while Nathan went on to secure bronze for his third place finish. Nathan later doubled up by getting into the final of the free sparing event and eventually took silver.
Albert Waldemeyer, competing in the group for juniors between 14 to 16 years of age, took the third place bronze medal in the forms event and silver in the free sparring.
For the adult ladies, Leisha Hampton-Jones took silver in forms and gold in her free sparring event, before Rosanna Spanoudakis followed that up with gold in forms and bronze in free sparring.
In the men’s events Alex Read and Ryan Vicera both took bronze in forms, and it was gold for Marc Melendres.
In the adult male sparring, Melendres claimed bronze, while Read and Vicera went head-to-head in their event final. After a real tussle that was evenly matched and closely fought, the contest went into extra time, with Read eventually emerging victorious to take gold.
The Region Four Regional Instructor brought along some of his students from Ireland to take part, and they are pictured with the eight MK club members, above.
