ORBIT Trampoline Club were represented by a magnificent seven members at last year’s British Championships, and will be again in 2012 after two more booked their places at a recent qualifying competition.

Competing in Cardiff, Martyn Howard was the first to jump at 9am in the O19 Men’s Fig B category, and from a field of 24 he was well placed in 6th after his set routine.

However, the unexpected happened, and he fell during his voluntary routine, ending his competition in Wales. Fortunately he qualified for the Nationals at an earlier competition so this was just for experience, although not of the type he had planned.

Following him was Lewis Wheeler, jumping in the U17 Boys Fig B group as he continues his recovery from a bad fall.

Taking part with bruising and a suspected broken nose, he showed great courage and determination in reaching full height during his set routine to score an 8 from the judges.

He then went on to deliver a fine voluntary routine to secure 5th place on the day, while also earning himself a place in the British Championships coming up in July.

Dayle Walker was also not at her very best as she has been recovering from illness, and so was unable to reach the standard that she had set during training. She finished in 18th spot and will attempt to raise Orbit’s number of National finalists to eight when she takes part in their next big qualifying competition in Liverpool in June.

Emily Young returned to action after a few years or retirement from the sport, and took part at national C grades level.

Despite her lengthy lay-off, she showed that she has forgotten nothing, producing a fine set routine to put her in 4th place.

And she kept up the pace in her voluntary to become Orbit’s second national qualifier in Cardiff as she held on to a 4th place finish to guarantee the club a representative at U19 Ladies level in the British Championships.
