CHARLOTTE Evans did her City of Milton Keynes team proud when she took bronze in the 200m backstroke event in a top national competition last week.

Competing at the ASA National Age Group Championships held in Sheffield, the 13-year-old more than kept up with the best young swimmers in the country as she set two new junior county record times in the 100m and 200m backstroke.

She clocked a time of 1m 07s in her 100m heat before finishing 7th in the final. But it was in the 200m that she really got her reward after improving on her entry time by six seconds to finish 3rd in the heat.

She then raced home in 2m 21.17s to take bronze and set a new county and south east region record time.

The club’s relay team of Isobel Jones, Charlotte Evans, Merryn Odell and Lauren Parker took 18 seconds off their entry time and qualified for the final of the 4x100m freestyle.

Their heat time of 4m 10.36s is a new county junior record and they went on to finish 7th in the final.

>> Thirteen City of Milton Keynes swimmers took part in this year’s National Youth Championships held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
