Two medals came for Marshall Milton Keynes Athletics Club on the first day of the South of England Indoor Championships at Lee Valley.

The first came in the pole vault as Rachel Gibbens won gold, and it was followed up with a silver for Emanuela Motta.

In the Senior Women’s event Rachel cleared a great 3.80m to take the title while in the F20 Competition Emanuela vaulted 3.00m for silver.

In the same age group Amy Botham was 5th in the 800m final with a time of 2m 43.72s while despite improving in the 200m semi-final Elysia Marriott’s 5th in 27.74s was not quite good enough to progress. Also 5th with a PB but not progressing in the M15 300m was Edward Jennings 44.84s. It was a similar story in the M20 400m heats for 5th placed Oli Lum 57.36s. There were two more PBs in the F15 and F17 pentathlons as Amber Evans finished 18th recording 60m hurdles 11.89s, high jump 1.26m, Long Jump 4.05m, Shot 5.44m and 800m 3m 03.47s for a total of 1657 points. F17 Lucy Johnston was 9th with 9.86s, 1.63m, 4.87m, 6.45m and 3m 08.23s in the same events respectively for 2625 points. M17 Felix Lum grabbed 8th in the pentathlon with 60m hurdles 10.00s, high jump 1.54m, long jump 5.05m, shot 7.99m and 1000m 3m 18.26s for a total of 2214 points.

Unfortunately after a good start James Mottram had to withdraw after recording 11.74s for the 60m hurdles, 1.54m high jump, 5.23m long jump and 7.15m shot.

Although Marshall Milton Keynes Athletic Club have become well renown for superb come-backs in the Chiltern Cross Country League it willtake a monumental effort in the final match to regain their title.

At the penultimate match in Slough Bedford and County again dominated and now have a lead of 1499 points over MK, while the Club have a relatively slender 486 point margin over 3rd placed Chiltern.

Unusually none of the teams won their matches although both Senior squads were 2nd with the Women holding on to top spot overall but the 3rd placed Veterans slipped to 2nd place.

The teams were once again led home by 2nd Lara Bromilow in 21m 18s with 8th Wendy Webber (F35) leading the Veteran team 22m 20s and two Juniors 17th Elle Roche (F20) 23m 13s and 30th Fern Yull (F20) 23m 58s completing the scoring team.

The Veteran team was rounded off by 43rd Diane Baldwin (F55) 25m 03s, 48th Maria Calleia (F35) 25m 28s and 69th Fiona Darling-Glinski (F45) 27m 43s.

The Men remain 2nd over while the 4th placed Junior squad stay 2nd overall but 8th on the day dropped the Veterans to 9th which was also the finishing position for Steve Tuttle as he led the way home in 28m 28s chased by 21st Ross Threlfall 30m 01s, 22nd Matt Clarke with the same time, 26th Graham Jones 30m 14s, 29th Steve Green 30m 24s, 38th Liam Smith (M20) was the first of the Juniors in 30m 58s.
